27 July 2017 Chessie †

Dear Chessie,

Only 5 months was all the time you had left to stay with us. You were a big cuddle and you also occasionally had your whims. You grunted if you did not agree with something and we had our tricks to circumvent that. If we were having dinner, you would prefer to sit under the table. Not that you got anything, you already had your dinner before, but you were persistent. You also liked sitting on our lap or you loved to lie with us on the lounger in the back of the garden. You spent the May holiday with us in Brabant in the tent trailer. We walked a lot that week which you sustained well. You could also fetch and you had lots of fun doing so. Unfortunately, a malignant tumor has made you very ill in a short time. We carry you forever in our hearts and promise you that we will take care of your buddy Debbie.

You have become an estimated 14 years old.

Rest in peace sweet Chessie … July 26, 2017

31 March 2017 Lanaken

A few weeks ago we went to Lanaken to pick up a new recumbent for Dylan.

During long car trips I always take something to craft with me, today also.

Some tips for traveling:

-Take a bag or bin that you can easily put at your feet and where you have easily acces to your craft supplies.

-Take a tray that fits well on your lap with a raised edge.

-Cut your fabric or ribbon in advance.

-Pins in a lid is always handy.

11 March 2017 Trial workshop

A week ago I gave the first part of a new workshop basic ornament making.

Three ladies first picked out some nice fabrics and then they worked hard to make a nice first half. Of course there was also a lot of chatting and laughing!

A few days later I looked for all possible ribbon types and colors that matched the three semi-finished ornaments.

Today the ornaments were finished and provided with a beautiful bow.

According to the ladies and myself very successful!
There will be workshops for various types of ornaments.

28 February 2017 Expansion of our pack

Almost two weeks ago we became acquainted with Chessie (Chester) and Debbie at https://www.dierenbescherming.nl/…/dierenopvangcentrum-t-no… . We are madly in love.

Chessie needed to have dental renovation first and after that we picked up our ladies.

This was a week and a half ago:

So this afternoon we picked up our girls. In the beginning they trembled in the car as expected, but as the ride progressed this became less and less. Once we got home we first put them on their new HUP in the back yard. (For possible toilet training, bad weather moments and when they grow old and can not walk that far anymore.) It was wet from the rain and the rest of the garden was much more interesting. Chessie is wagging her tail the whole time. Debbie’s tail also went up immediately. They inaugurated the whole garden with big and small ‘needs’ except their new private HUP ?. When the kitchen door opened they rushed inside, Debbie’s tail went back between her paws but after 2 rounds around the kitchen table, she was wagging her tail again. The water bowl was quickly found and the living room also received a thorough sniff inspection of both. At Dierenopvang t Noordbroek (Animal shelter) we bought an extra set of feeders, there were also a number of tasty chew bones in the package. Debbie took a bone first and gave Chessie a warning grunt when she wanted the bone. Then Chessie took pleasure in another bone. Looking out and crawling behind the curtains is also fun.
We already have a lot of fun and it seems that Chessie and Debbie are already completely at home.

24 September 2016 Enzo Knol fanmeeting

My boys were going crazy! We had managed to get tickets for the Enzo Knol fan meeting in Enschede. There had to be a gift for Dee and Enzo.

During the fan meeting a week ago Dylan asked Enzo knol if he wanted to open the gift in the vlog. He did want to do that, I was told afterwards. Will this still happen? We will wait, but I did not want to withhold you the KnolPowerOrnament any longer.

Marijn and Dylan with Dee in the photo, present at the bottom left still in Marijn’s hands.

13 May 2016 Spiekerz jeans

Spiekerz is a new clothing brand. Jeans, sweatpants and what else might come along will be added in the future, especially for tall, thin teenagers who can not succeed in the regular store. In other words: Jeans for tall skinny teens.

In Twente (Area I live) a long skinny person is also called a spieker. As a born and raised tukker this seems to be a suitable name to me.
A week and a half ago my new Juki stitching machine was delivered. Today, after some adjustments due to my long legs, the new lock machine arrived. The first test jeans are in a bucket with soapwater to see if they give off any dye and the first sweatpants are lying next to the lock to be sewn.
Spiekerz is going to have its own spot at https://mirandasornaments.com

2 May 2016 Two new Juki’s

Dylan, my eldest son, has very long legs; in the meantime they are longer than mine! His waist is so slim that jeans with buttonhole elastic is what we bought. But Dylan is also getting older and longer. He now wears length size 39 with a waist size 30 or 31 ( just what is available) with a belt around it. Of course this isn’t really comfy. Because jeans and / or nice sweatpants are no longer available, I want to make them myself.

My lovely Husqvarna sewing machine, however, has some problems with thicker denim and actually I have dreamed since my education of having my own industrial sewing machine. The pleasure of fully automatic attaching, tie-off and cutting of the thread. And all with the foot pedal! Such a lovely wide pedal where you can put both feet next to each other. Also the speed which makes the fabric zoom under the presser foot with the greatest ease! A fully automatic I-will-oil-myself system and a wonderfully quiet machine.

That dream became reality. Such a machine is standing in my studio now!

And the second Juki? That is an industrial lock and it is being adapted to fit my long legs underneath 😉

16 February 2016 Ribbon rolls

At first I stocked all of my ribbon in blue Ikea boxes. Unclear, so I wanted to think of something else so I could see at a glance what ribbon I had.

Along the walls was no place anymore, so something had to come above the fabric table.

After some puzzling I came up with this solution: Wooden sticks of 9 mm thick on which the roles with smaller holes would also fit. From thick cotton cord that I had left I tied the hanging system.

How much space should there be between two rows of ribbon and how many centimeter in space does a knot take on that rope? I took the biggest ribbon roll I had and with a few centimeters extra I took that as in between space. Then I tied a knot, marked it on both sides and untied it again. Now I knew the size and I could mark the rope and tie the knots at the right height.

The six ropes were hung using hooks on the ceiling. The 10 sticks have the same length as the fabric table underneath. This resulted in two ribbon rolls hanging systems next to each other.

30 January 2016 Mice

From childhood I am already fond of mice. If they were found somewhere as a young mice, they were saved and brought up with a pipette of food.

(If they are in the house now, a mousetrap will be put 😉 )

When my husband and I wanted to live together in 1996, we could not really find a suitable announcement card.

In an old Donald Duck I found a Douwe Dabbert poster with a moonlight scene painted on it. On the bridge two mice (or two rats?) were snugly together with the tails entwined looking at the moon.

The sketches were quickly finished and that’s how our going-to-live-together card came about and six years later the little pair was also drawn on our wedding card:

Even later on the moving card and in adapted version in 2005 on the birth announcement card of our youngest son:

When I had to come up with a logo for Miranda’s Ornaments, it could only be the mouse couple ❤️❤️
